A letter by Finsbury Park resident Jenny Kassman repeating calls to use the visitor centre at closed Holloway prison as a homeless shelter has appeared in the Evening Standard.
She said Islington North MP Jeremy Corbyn and local homelessness charities have been pushing for the centre to be turned over to shelter homeless people since the prison closed in 2016, but the Ministry of Justice have so far refused permission.
In 2018 the Ministry of Justice was accused of ‘misleading the public’ over their reasons for refusing to allow local people to use the visitor centre. A Freedom of Information request submitted by campaign group Reclaim Holloway revealed that only part of the centre had been used on a temporary basis to train prison officers, suggesting there was capacity to use it for other things.
