Can you spare an hour?

We are organising two community action days on Saturday 15th July and Saturday 22nd July. The aim is to get leaflets into the doors of all homes in St George’s ward and Holloway ward with information about the prison’s closure and encouraging residents to respond to our survey. It is really important, so we need an hour of your time between 10 am and 5 pm.

Please email Will McMahon if you can give an hour, or just show up on the day (but telling us beforehand helps).

We have been out and about

We’ve been out and about in Islington getting the word out about Community Plan for Holloway.

We’ve been leafleting at tube stations and spent a day at the Big Issue office listening to magazine vendors’ ideas for the site. Matt Ford has hand delivered bundles of postcards to community groups and voluntary sector organisations across the borough.

We’ve met so many lovely people who want to get involved and share their hopes for the future of Holloway.

Council wins land mark case on affordable housing

Islington Council has won a landmark case after the Planning Inspectorate upheld the council’s refusal of planning permission for a development on the former Territorial Army (TA) Centre on Parkhurst Road.

The Holloway prison site is very close to the TA Centre. The judgement could serve as a warning to any potential buyer against buying high and expecting to recoup this by cutting back on affordable homes. Read more…

Room for 800 homes at Holloway?

A letter from the Ministry of Justice to the House of Commons Justice Committee has said that the Holloway prison site is ‘expected to open up land for building around 800 new homes’. The figure of 800 is higher than our earlier estimate of 500 homes. Throughout the summer we will be working hard to encourage as many people as possible to respond to the survey. The responses we receive will create the framework for a community plan. We will then bring this back to the people of Islington to discuss in more detail in autumn 2017.
