Give Holloway prison visitors’ centre to local community

We are supporting local organisations in their call for the Ministry of Justice to open the visitors’ centre at the former Holloway prison site in Islington.

Holloway prison closed in 2016. It is likely to be several years before any redevelopment of the site is completed. Just outside the prison walls is a building that was used as a visitors’ centre for those visiting prisoners. The building is modern, accessible and child-friendly. It was also built using charitable funds.

Local groups will be gathering on Saturday 18 February between 12.00 and 13.30 to call for the Ministry of Justice to loan the visitors’ centre to a partnership of local groups, so that it can be run by them in the community interest.

We are working with local people and community groups on a two-year community engagement project – Community Plan for Holloway – to develop a vision for how the Holloway prison site might be developed to benefit the local community.
